A place for environmental art

Art for Planet Earth is a not-for-profit Unincorporated Association providing a dedicated online exhibition for art that responds to environmental concerns

Who We Are

Art for Planet Earth is a not-for-profit Unincorporated Association established in 2026 to provide a dedicated platform for environmental art.

Founded by Jane Harding, an established experimental printmaker from Ludlow, Shropshire, the association is supported by a small group of local volunteers who help develop the website and assist with its activities and day-to-day running.

Art for Planet Earth grew out of an earlier project launched in 2024 called Yesterday Today Tomorrow. That website, together with a series of exhibitions, was created to encourage a conversation between generations about the environmental legacy being left behind. It brought together work that reflected on the condition of the planet and invited people to respond not only emotionally, but thoughtfully.

The positive response to that project led to a wider ambition: to create a more enduring and supportive platform for artists whose work engages with environmental issues. While encouraging developing talent remains an important part of our work, Art for Planet Earth is intended to support artists at different stages of their career who share a concern for the future of the planet.

Why We Exist

"Art can make environmental change visible, personal, and human."

We believe art can play a powerful role in shaping how people think and feel about environmental issues. It can communicate urgency, loss, hope and responsibility in ways that are immediate, memorable and human.

Environmental concerns such as climate change, pollution, habitat loss and species extinction affect everyone, yet they sometimes feel distant or overwhelming. Art has the ability to make these issues visible, personal and emotionally resonant. It can open up conversation, inspire reflection and encourage action.

We also recognise that many artists find it difficult to secure opportunities to exhibit their work, reach wider audiences and generate sales, particularly outside traditional galleries. Art for Planet Earth exists in part to help address that by providing a dedicated online space where artists can present work, connect with visitors and, if they choose, offer their artwork for sale.

Our Environmental Objectives

Our purpose is not only to display art, but to support a wider environmental conversation.

We want the platform to:

  • raise awareness of environmental issues and their consequences
  • encourage reflection and discussion through visual art
  • support artists whose work contributes to that conversation
  • generate practical support for environmental charities

We believe environmental art should be inclusive. It should welcome different voices, different experiences and different artistic approaches. For that reason our aim is to be open to artists at any stage in their career and who work in different styles, and to build a platform that is open, credible and relevant to a wide audience.

We want visitors to encounter work that makes them think, feel, question and respond. In some cases that response may be to purchase a piece of artwork; in others, it may simply be to see the subject differently.

In the longer term, we hope Art for Planet Earth will become a respected and self-sustaining space for environmental art and artists, while also contributing to environmental causes in a meaningful and transparent way.

Where the Money Goes

As a not-for-profit Unincorporated Association, any surplus generated by Art for Planet Earth will be donated to environmental charities. We will review annually which charities receive funding and publish this information on the website.

Our income comes from two main sources:

  • modest entry fees for competitions
  • commission on artworks sold through the online gallery

Everyone involved in running Art for Planet Earth contributes their time voluntarily. Our core costs are limited to essential items such as prize funding, website hosting, internet services and promotion. This helps keep the project focused on supporting artists, maintaining the platform and directing surplus funds towards environmental work.
